If by serve, you mean use in a LTSP environment, I do.

I teach a web design class, and last semester, I had 21 kids all using the
Gimp at the same time.  Since most kids had used some drawing program
before, it didn't take them long to figure out how to use it.  Most kids
used the Gimp to make buttons or banners for their website, and a few used
the higher level photo editing functions.  Those kids had also had some
experience with Adobe Photoshop.

My server is a quad P3 550MHz with 3gb ram. The NICS and switch are all
100base.
