Will this purge screen also and, if so, is there any way around it?  Screen is really useful for saving desktop space etc - I use it to have a number of different screens that I use every time I'm logged in - one to wget files, another using lynx for googling, another to run top, etc. Right now I can exit out of the terminal where screen is running and pick up screen again after I log in and launch a terminal.
