Most of the time XSERVER = vesa would work. Try with low screen size
like 640x480 and then 800x600 or higher.
The other reason could be that your vid card is not having enough
memory. General guidelines from list archives is 500Kb - 640x480, 1mb -
800x600 and 2mb - 1024x768.
