Robert,

I would recommend backing up with rsnyc to a separate server. In our 
network I use rsync to backup from one server to another. Probably the 
easiest way to do this is to use SSH-keygen in concert with rsync  to 
provide a seamless and secure backup that will run unattended as a CRON 
job.  There is a really a really good description and how to for SSH key 
generation on page 140 of Linux Server Hacks by Rob Flickenger. Server 
Hacks is published by O'Reilly and is a great resource.
