I'd suggest using the SME Server in Gateway mode. Setup squidGuard or
Dansguardian for content filtering. Also has very easy to use web
administration for enabling clamav/spamassassin and hosting email (using
qmail), with Horde's IMP already included. If needed, apache, mysql,
php, and many other goodies are already setup as well.
http://www.contribs.org/ to download the SME Server 6.0.1 iso.
This is server is pretty easy to use for the Linux newbie. But, if you
are already an experienced user... you may get confused when you start
mucking around on the console. In an effort to make the server as hard
to break as possible, almost all configuration settings are stored in a
database /home/e-smith/{accounts,configuration,networks} and 'nearly'
all config files can be regenerated at anytime. So, manually editing
certain config files (like /etc/httpd/config/httpd.conf) is a bad thing.
Any manual changes will get lost on reboot. Custom mods have to be
done in the approved SME way.
Can provide a lot more info (or links) if needed.
Also, if all you needed was content filtering, I probably would have
recommended IPCop. But, since you want to run mail on this box... SME
Server is the way to go. IMO. :)
Later,
Abe
