I've had that problem before too. Killing rpm at the wrong time results 
in having the files somehow conflict with each other. Thus you not only 
need to rebuild the DB, but delete the files as well. I don't know 
enough about the workings of rpm to explain in any detail. This just 
seemed to be the proper explanation.
