Make sure you make your recovery CD's before deleting that partition.
Compaqs and HP put the system recovery information there and most of the new
ones do not ship with recovery CDs. You have to make them from inside
Windows XP. Of couse, if you are sure that you will never use Windows again
then it does not matter (unless you decide to sell the system off in the
future).
