Thanks for that tip, Dan. It got me over the initial install hump. I successfully walked through a noprobe install, but then on reboot I get the following:

Red Hat nash version 4.1.18 starting
Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while...
  No volume groups found
  No volume groups found
  No volume groups found
mount: error 6 mounting ext3
mount: error 2 mounting none
switchroot: mount failed: 22
umount /initrd/dev failed: 2
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2004-December/msg01164.html is the only other place I can find a reference to this bug other than 135484 and 138590. As per those suggestions, I've booted off of a Fedora Core 2 rescue CD (FC3 resc displays same misbehaviour) and edited my /etc/modprobe.conf (replaced megaraid_mbox with megaraid). Still nothing.

I still have the floppy with the updated megaraid module from comment 22; any suggestions on how to add that into my FC3 k12ltsp system? It seems that the latest FC3 kernels have solved this problem, so if I could somehow run up2date from the rescue CD, that should work as well. The third option appears to be rolling my own kernel, but I'm a bit wet behind the ears for that... comments? questions? rebuttals?
