[K12OSN] smb cups

I have a k12ltsp driving a small elementary school. Be cause of half 
finished projects, I have some terminals doing dual boot to windows 98. 
I have the cups setup to share network printers outside of the ltsp to 
smb clients inside the ltsp. The terminals all print fine, but the win98 
machines ask for a password. I have no passwords set on the win98 
machine for printer sharing. I've tried the root password and any other 
I thought might work... no go. I connected my an xp pro machine external 
to the ltsp and I can print to the cups cue fine. Is this just not 
possible because of win98?
Any help appreciated.
