[K12OSN] prelink

I've generally been using KDE, but have been trying to get more
comfortable with icewm because I'm on an 'old' PII 450MHz as my ltsp
server 8-). When I switch to running icewm I see that prelink (at the
moment, at least) is operating and being a real cpu hog taking up >70%
of system/cpu resources. I don't see this at all with KDE. I did a
quick read of 'man prelink' but that doesn't give any light (to me) on
why it's running. Here is a selection of ps -aux and below that a
section of top to show what I mean:

####### ps aux extract with wrapped lines ############
# root      5956  0.0  0.0  5244 1020 ?        SN   21:16
0:00 /bin/sh /etc/cron.daily/prelink
# root      5957  0.0  0.0  5144  688 ?        SN   21:16   0:00 awk -v
progname=/etc/cron.daily/prelink progname {?????   print progname ":
\n"?????   progname="";????       }????       { print; }
# root      5965 53.3  0.3  6692 3880 ?        RN   21:16
8:50 /usr/sbin/prelink -av -mR -q
##################################################

######## top extract #########
 5965 root      39  19 13420  10m  488 R 86.9  1.0  16:33.11 prelink
 6840 gavin     15   0  109m  42m  17m S  4.3  4.2   2:56.27 galeon
#############################

Any clues welcome. I'm tempted to kill the app, but since it's running
as a daily cron job it might be doing something useful and get over it
sometime soon :-)
