[K12OSN] Can't see internet on fresh 4.2.0 install SOLVED

I finally have it solved!

Here is what I did. I finally just decided to try
installing Trustix since it was a small install and a
different kernel. During install, after entering the
IP configuration for each NIC it said that it couldn't
see the Gateway and forced me back to the NIC setup. I
traded the IP settings around and nothing changed so I
hit upon an idea. My ISP gave me a static IP of
x.x.x.162, a gateway of x.x.x.125 and a subnet mask of
255.255.255.252. I changed the subnet mask to
255.255.255.0 and everything started working. I don't
understand exactly what range of addresses the .252
gives me but I assume that either linux can't handle
it (I doubt that is true but my Win 2K box worked with
it.) or the range of addresses does not include
x.x.x.125. What I don't know is what problems might I
be creating by using a bigger range subnet mask.
Should I worry about it or contact my ISP about it?

Thank you all for the help and ideas.
