I had the messed-up version of wireless-tools installed on my desktop.

Here is what I ran to fix it:

rpm -Uhv --oldpackage ftp://k12linux.mesd.k12.or.us/pub/K12LTSP/4.2.1/updates/wireless-tools-27-0.pre25.3.i386.rpm
