[K12OSN] accelerated reader

I can tell you, Accelerated Reader does fully function under Crossover Office 4.1 .I've got an installation on my K12LTSP server, and I have 2 accounts configured to use AR (I installed it globaly, but didn't configure it globally for all users b/c our librarian wanted the kids only to run it in the library, and currently 2 thin clients in the library auto-login to the AR accounts).

You do have to tweak a few settings for Anti-Aliasing (disable it actually) for the AR executables in the wine configuration...otherwise when you select students/books the inverse of the selection is unreadable.

I recommend Crossover, especially version 4.1 You can even see Quicktime movies... it didn't put very much of a hit on the server. Just the other day a student played a windows media player movie in a webpage...under Linux. ;-)
I'm working on sound... (not to say that I have sound working on all my terminals anyway at the moment).

Hope this helps.

Hello Burt,

Not very long ago, there was quite a spirited debate on this list about
this exact subject--programs like Accelerated Reader, Reader Rabbit,
etc. that run only on Windows or Mac OS. That debate was instigated
largely by me. At the moment, your options are to try it out on either
WINE or its corporately-backed sibling, CrossOver Office.

If someone has a spare (legal, that is) copy of any of these programs, I
am willing to try it out on CrossOver Office, since I currently have
access to the betas and nightly builds.
