[K12OSN] floppies

I have had an awful time trying to mount floppies on a k12 box.  I have
used mke2fs and mkfs to format disks and then I put them into a k12
client and it says it cannot mount them.  I use the command: 
 
mount -t ext2 /dev/fd0 /media/floppy
 
and I get an error saying wrong file type?
 
Any help is appreciated.
