Doesn't seem like the verynice project is active upstream, but I'd
understand if you'd rather see changes made there.

I've gotten more aggressive w/ verynice to kill runaway processes when
users shut off terminals w/o logging out, specifically
in /etc/verynice.conf:

runawayexe "gam_server"
runawayexe "gnome-panel"
runawayexe "gnome-settings-daemon"
badkarmarate .1000
