Many would recommend you try minicom.  It's standard with many distros
including FC3.  However, I found it a bit too archaic and cryptic for my
taste and have got great use from gtkterm for comms with dataloggers and
such like on the serial port.  Haven't tried it from thin clients,
though.  Maybe you get back into that issue of client serial port access
that comes up from time to time ;-)
