Have you checked for viruses on the rest of your network?  A fast
machine with a virus can flood the network to the point that other
unrelated things can appear to lose connections at random.  I'm seeing
a lot of 'sober.P' being caught by mimedefang/clam on our email
gateway today, so it is probably everywhere.
