[K12OSN] Local App Firefox and Samba Authentication

I am currently setting up Firefox as a local application for thin clients
running off of several K12LTSP 4.2 servers.

I can invoke the application successfully for users who authenticate via NIS,
but we also have a number of users who authenticate against a Windows NT
machine (via Samba). If one of these users calls local firefox,
authentication (be it key or password based) fails, and firefox fails to
load.

I'd appreciate advice from anyone who has managed to get local firefox working
in such an environment. Naturally, if I come up with the solution first, I
will post it here. Thanks in advance!
