Jim,
On top of what jim wrote, if the problem is at the server, go over the
/var/log/messages and other logs to see if there are any out of the norm
messages. I had a problem with a SCSI controller that dropped off
line,RAID 0, and there was a one liner in the message log that I missed
that would have saved me a 20 mile drive to the site. Also, depending on
the hardware, If you have diags, run them. I tend towards dells, partly
because of the diagnostic software that comes standard. A few starting
points.
