[K12OSN] Simple RSYNC question

Are you using the -a option?  That is supposed to
preserve permissions, among other things.  If you
don't want to use -a for some reason, you can specify
-p to preserve permissions.  But generally I think -a
is used because it preserves time stamps, group,
owner, permissions, links, etc., as well as recursing
down into the directory structure.
