[K12OSN] Using thin client as a jetdirect device

Pat,

First thing, before doing anything in the print spooler setup, is try to
telnet to the printer.

That is:

    telnet ws001 9100

See if you can connect. If the connection is accepted, you should be
able to type things on the keyboard ,and they should print on the
printer. Press Ctrl-L to eject a page.

If that works, then you've got a CUPS issue on the server.

If the connection isn't accepted, then you have a problem on the
workstation. Maybe the parallel module isn't being loaded or something.

Which kernel are you booting on the client? I've heard of problems with
printing and the LTSP 2.6.9 kernel. You should be using 2.4.26-ltsp-3.

And, why are you running 'updatedb' ?
Isn't that for the 'locate' command?

One more thing you can try, is checking the bios settings for the
printer port. I've seen issues with EPP settings. I don't remember the
best setting, but I remember it needing to be changed.
