I've mentioned this before - and I'm still too lazy to do it
myself because I don't mind typing the commands when I need
them - but it should not be difficult at all to rebuild a
knoppix image that would 'just work' with k12ltsp. You
should be able to use the literal name 'server' in the
X -query server
startup command and if you modify your server setup to
use other IP addresses, all you have to do is put the
'server' name in dns to match. The only complication
would be installations on flat networks with more
than one server as people are starting to do with
fancy dhcp setups. Even there you could pick one
to call 'server' or hand out different default dns
domains so they could each be 'server' in their matching
domain.

There is way more than you need on the knoppix CD but
the price is right and it will boot just about
anything. It might be a partial solution for the
people needing low bandwith access too if it can
be made to come up running the NX client.
