Sounds just like Nagios. (http://www.nagios.org/) I'm using it to
monitor a dozen servers, Windows and Linux, all around town. Extremely
configurable (and a little daunting at first), it can monitor all sorts
of services and conditions. And you can check them all from a very nice
web interface, and get mailed / paged when something's amiss.
