Hi Chuck....well, I'm back in and running...the home dirs are exporting but the
two FC boxes give me the following on the 'services' 'nfs' tab readout.....

Shutting down NFS mountd: rpc.mountd (pid 6446 6382 6318 6211 6136 6072 6002
5908 5843 3503) is running...
nfsd (pid 3487 3486 3485 3484 3483 3482 3481 3480) is running...
rpc.rquotad (pid 6439 6375 6311 6204 6129 6065 5995 5901 5836 3451) is running...

The home dirs are exporting though. On the 4.2.1 EL box the reading is normal,
i.e, there is no 'shutting down NFS mountd' line leadin into the rest of the
log..do you think there is a subservice that I don't have on???

And a big thank you to all of  you who responded so quickly...this list is
absolutely GREAT! I'm instituting all of your suggestions in the morning.....J
