[K12OSN] AlphaSmarts & AlphaBeam

Our school has about 50 Alphasmarts (Neo's and 3000's) that I need to setup
to they can beam their data into word processing applications within K12LTSP
using their IR link.  Within windows, we use AlphaBeam software and either a
serial or USB IR pod. I've searched the archives and can only find one
reference to Alphasmart, and can't believe that we are the only school using
K12ltsp and Alphasmarts.

I presume that I'll need to get the IR Pod recognized at the terminal first,
then either get Wine (which I've not used before) to run AlphaBeam or find
an open source alternative to collect the data and place it into the word
processing program.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
