This one is about RHEL3 which reminded me that I think that it
(and centos3.x, and fedora) did install grub on the first of a
raid1 pair by itself in a normal install.  However, it didn't
work for me on centos4 without the manual grub setup.

And by the way - I have had drives fail and was able to continue
running and even replace them (hot-swap scsi) and rebuild without
shutting down.  It is worth the trouble, but you need to know
the procedure ahead of time including how to remove and add
scsi devices if you want to do that part live.
