The right mouse or menu cut/paste is really a different operation with
it's own clipboard.   The highlight/middle-click snarf/barf mode should
work most places too.  I think what you are really seeing is that you
don't have middle-click emulation enabled for your 2-button mouse under
some conditions but I've forgotten what controls that.  (How do you get
along without a roller wheel anyway).
