Not sure if this will help you but I disabled host raid on my adaptec
controller bios and use the kernel to setup software raid 1. Also in the old
days of RH9 I used the drivers provided by adaptec. They have a floppy disk
image you can download and use the boot parameter dd or expert where
ananconda should ask for the driver disk during installation. Not sure if
there is a version for fc5 though.
