For newer windows file servers (maybe 2000 and later?)
you need to specify "-t cifs" instead of "-t smbfs". 
Cifs is Microsoft's new filesharing specification.  

Another peculiarity of the Cifs system is that you
need to provide credentials in order to see the list
of available file shares.  The older system let you
see the list w/o providing credentials, and only
required the credentials if you actually wanted to
mount one of those shares.
