This isn't exactly help with your specific problem, but if you want to solve 
multi-media problems, check out "Fedora Frog".  Neat little GUI app that 
lets you just check new features/apps you want and it handles all the 
install and setup for you.

Very cool.  A similar program exists for Ubuntu but I cannot remember the 
name off hand.
