[K12OSN] ot: help with hosed /boot!!!

Hey Folks,
Ironically I ran into trouble after an image backup with dd. No thank
god I didn't image the wrong drive! When i went to test the back up
it wouldn't boot - same with the original. /boot seems to be all there
it's just not bootable anymore. I'm trying to restore grub with linux
rescue (centos install ). I do grub-install /dev/fd0 I get :

Could not find device for /boot/boot: not found or not a block device

Search results for this sugest doing this:

Try the following:
Update the mtab file by running this command as root after you have
done chroot /mnt/sysimage with the rescue cd.

cp /proc/mounts /etc/mtab

But my /proc directory is empty. So before chroot i did mount -o bind
/proc /mnt/sysimage/proc and then cp /proc/mounts /etc/mtab. No joy.
But now when I try grub-install /dev/fd0 I get:

/dev/hda1 does not have any corresponding BIOS drive

When I try grub-install /dev/hda I get:

/dev/hda does not have any corresponding BIOS drive

Search results for this sugest doing this:

grub-install --recheck /dev/hda

But then I get:

Could not find device for /boot: not found or not a block device

All roads lead to "Could not find device for /boot: not found or not a
block device" it seems. Can someone give me a hand?

Thanks in advance!

Peter
