I simply run the newlist command in the command line.  Then use the Mailman
web administration to manage settings and copy/paste subscribers.  Once you
get the hang of it things are very smooth.  However I do keep a separate
database of subscribers currently as well, then I run queries to generate the
lists to paste in the the web side.  I only do this because of other
information I need to keep track of.  Eventually I would like to move to a
link on the website that shows a list of possible mailing lists to join for
our school and leave it up to the parents to join themselves taking us
completely out of the loop.  Mailman makes this approach possible.  Then there
is no interaction required on the administrators side other than moderation.
