[K12OSN] recommended repositories for 4.4.1?

I am having a variety of update issues on my 4.4.1 servers. I believe
that most of them stem from the repositories I have been using. Does a
list of recommended repos (yum or apt) for use with K12LTSP exist
anywhere? Also, being a Debian / Ubuntu user at heart, I gravitate
towards using apt (or synaptic) for updates and installing applications.
Does using apt instead of or with yum have a tendency to "break stuff"?
I know Fedora has deprecated the use of apt in favor of yum, but I've
always had the impression they could safely be used interchangeably as
long repos were kept reasonably in sync.
