Here are a few things that can kill sound on any Linux OS/K12LTSP.
so, do the following:
Wrong perms on a couple files &  using the wrong sound daemon globally.
correct by doing the following:

terminal > su - press ENTER> (root password)press ENTER>, 
root#~]chmod -c 777 /dev/dsp
  "     "     "  "  /dev/mixer

^ two things to do,

Next go to SYSTEM>Preferences> More Preferences> Mulitimedia Systems
Selector,, change the OUTPUT to ESD -_Enligthenment Sound Daemon, then
do a Test Sound, you should get the sound Sine wave. If this works you
should get sound for all clients. If you dont get sound here ,your esd
package is clobbered:(..
