John,

When you boot your Nvato, client box, ( with speakers turned all way up),
do you ever hear a "pop" when the modules for soundcard are trying to
load? This comes right after you see several lines of usb....
If you do definatley hear a pop you should get sound from this particular
soundcard, then you have a permissions thing set wrong on /dev/dsp & or
/dev/mixer.

do "chmod 777 /dev/dsp" and "chmod 777 /dev/mixer" [these may not exist
if your server has no soundcard.]
and "chmod 777 /opt/ltsp/i386/dev/dsp" & "chmod 777 /opt/ltsp/i386/dev/mixer"

open xmms ( you'll have to rpm this in ) click prefernces> then sound
output,change to **esd**.
select /usr/share/sounds for a directory to play sounds out of, so you
have some various sound formats to play,
see if you get sound "waves" in xmms.
Also see if you get sound out of SYSTEM>PREFERENECES>MORE
PREFERENCES>SOund Multimedia select change to esd on click "test". You
should hear the syn sound.

Let us know your findings,,
