I'm going to set up a new k12 lab and looking for the new server
configuration.
Some dealers proposed a pentium dual-core setting.

Server BIOS Pentium-4 serie SC5295/UP
                     Chassis + M/B Intel Server, CPU Pentium4 925/3,0
dual core, 1Gb RAM, HDD 250Gb S/ATA-II serie WD Caviar, DVD ROM

Server BIOS XEON serie 5000 dual core
Chassis e M/B Intel Server, CPU XEON 3,0/5050 dual core, 1Gb
RAM, HDD 250Gb S/ATA-II serie WD Caviar, DVD ROM

(no problem with RAM: I'll raise it to 4Gb)

As a matter of fact I tried to install linux on a dual-core desktop only
once short time ago and it was really disappointing: any version of
ubuntu (from 5.04 to 6.06) didn't even start, that was the same with the
64 bit version, and with the latest knoppix.
The only distro I managed to install was a quite old knoppix (3.6) with
2.4 kernel.

Has anyone out there already tried to set up a server with the CPUs
above? Any problem? Is it worthwhile compared to a "normal" XEON (XEON
3,0 /Fsb 800 BOX)?

TIA
Antonello
