received by a running process.  Strace can print a record of each
system call, its arguments and its return value.  Strace is useful for
diagnosing problems and debugging, as well as for instructional
purposes."

You'll need to "yum install strace" to install it. It's something I try
out if a program ever bombs out for no apparent reason.

If you think it's related to running on the terminals, can you try
running from the console?
