Hi John,

You did not mention what version of K12ltsp/ltsp you are running? Are you
using esd as the default sound daemon? DO you have ALL pci cards in your
client machines? Ive found a good starting spot to troubleshoot this,,is
to install XMMS. This is easy and consistent to test sound on. Once you
have your sound working on ALL clients through XMMS,, then graduate to
Flash/ Rhythmbox,Totem, Xine, Mplayer etc. But the BIG thing is use XMMS
and <esd> as the sound output for xmms /preferences to test sound on each
client. If you dont do this, you'll end up doing many days of head
scratching as it sounds you have been doing. Do you check to make sure all
client machines are set in System>Preferences>More Preferences> Multimedia
systems selector set to esd,and do you get the Syn "humm' when doing
atest or what error do you get? You are right in that on v5 of k12ltsp( if
this is the version of k12ltsp you are using) you have to chmod 755 the
/dev/dsp and the /dev/mixer to get sound working for "everyone".If you
like email me off list and i will help in more detail. Lots of little
things that will work easier such as using totem-xine,rather than the
default totem,,which uses gstreamer sound .For flash sound you still may
need to do the " mkdir /tmp/.esd , then touch /tmp/.esd/socket" once in a
while to keep it working, etc. Ive been doing this gig since early versions
of k12ltsp,,and still dont know much,,though:)..but sound works on
everything cept RealPlayer10:(..which does not have esd support..
