[K12OSN] smbldap-tools issues

Hello! I have two remaining items causing some troubles in smbldap-tools.

The first is that, in /var/log/secure, I see this whenever attempting to
authenticate, say via ssh'ing into the box:
ltsp sshd[21524]: pam_ldap: could not open secret file /etc/ldap.secret
(No such file or directory)

If I 'touch /etc/ldap.secret' then authentication breaks (ssh logins
don't work) and the logs then show

ltsp sshd[21684]: nss_ldap: failed to bind to LDAP server
ldap://127.0.0.1: Server is unwilling to perform
ltsp sshd[21684]: nss_ldap: failed to bind to LDAP server
ldap://127.0.0.1: Server is unwilling to perform
ltsp sshd[21684]: nss_ldap: reconnecting to LDAP server (sleeping 4
seconds)...

Should I simply ignore this, as ssh/XWindows authentication still works?
The OCD part of my brain is obsessing over things not being perfect (;

Secondly, when attempting to log into the box from a win98 machine using
microsoft networking, I get 'Invalid credentials or access to your
domain server not allowed'. I am sure I am using the correct password.

/var/log/secure shows this:
ltsp sshd[21524]: pam_ldap: error trying to bind as user
"uid=mblinn,ou=Users,dc=peopleplaces,dc=org" (Invalid credentials)

and nmbd.log shows this:
check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [MBLINN] -> [MBLINN]
FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER

Can anyone help with these issues?

Thanks,
  Michael
