I think I misunderstood your problem.  The vnc applet is only worth the 
trouble if you can't install a vnc viewer on the client side.

FreeNX just lets you run a remote linux desktop efficiently. The real 
issue here is that you'll need a windows license for every instance of 
windows, even under VMware, and a client license for every rdesktop 
connection to it.  How many of them do you need to run at once?
