Every time I build a new Linux machine, I include an extra partition
the same size as my root partition, and leave it blank. That becomes
the root partition for my next upgrade. It lets me upgrade w/o
worrying, because I don't have to overwrite the old system. If the
upgrade doesn't work right, I can just reboot back into the old system.
