[K12OSN] Printing in OpenOffice hangs clients

can print from command line...from adobe reader...from firefox...

but not from OpenOffice...writer/calc/...nothing...
it hangs the client...

the ONLY thing I've found in searching the web was a gdm theme causing 
this...changing theme did nothing(was the suggested "fix")...

using the last 64-bit official K12LTSP release...a while ago I think 
it's 2yrs old now.

anyone else had this problem?
I updated all available packages and problem persists.

off to do more searching...
