easy user interface for students/teachers?

You might have seen the easy user interface of the Asus EEE that comes
with its Xandros OS.
I searching for a similar 'tab' based interface that makes it easy for
students to navigate the system and start applications.
The interface could be configured accroding to their usegroup (agegroup).
