You aren't needing to read the labels on their clothes. . . you just need to see if there is someone *there*. . .

"Quality" isn't as much of a factor as "the presence of" if you are using this for the described purpose.

Problem is that the webcams don't have the sort of lens that we'd need.

I'm looking at a package called "webcam" that's part of xawtv at the mo to see if that'll do it.
