This is with the main EL6 release.  With the release 11 the NBD root 
works fine.  So these message comparisons are between those two versions.

The only related messages in the logs are:

/var/log/secure log errors upon login attempt:
first three lines are normal for a successful login from a thin client 
NBD root mount.
