[K12OSN] Poor performance woes

This might not solve your problem, but I know Chromium at least ships
with some pretty sophisticated developer tools for profiling and
analyzing javascript and browser performance.  If you poke around a
bit you might get an idea of what's causing this weird behavior.  I
know I'm curious...
