some initial notes:

1) I noticed the repo file for 1.2 still points at the nightly URL:

[root at g-12070948 ~]# rpm -q katello-repos
katello-repos-1.2.1-1.git.34.5c113ae.el6.noarch
[root at g-12070948 ~]# grep baseurl /etc/yum.repos.d/katello.repo
baseurl=http://fedorapeople.org/groups/katello/releases/yum/nightly/RHEL/$releasever/$basearch/
baseurl=http://fedorapeople.org/groups/katello/releases/source/nightly/RHEL/$releasever/

2) katello-devel-all fails to install on F17:

--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Package: rubygem-jshintrb-0.2.1-2.fc17.noarch (katello)
            Requires: rubygem(multi_json) >= 1.3
            Installed: rubygem-multi_json-1.0.3-5.fc17.noarch (@fedora)
                rubygem(multi_json) = 1.0.3
  You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
  You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

3) katello-configure failed on EL6:

Starting Katello configuration

which looks like it is that cp/reporter/core error that I thought got
removed from the Gemfile:

> Exiting!
/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/bundler_ext-0.2.0/lib/aeolus/ext/bundler_ext.rb:48:in
`strict_error': Gem loading error: no such file to load --
ci/reporter/core (RuntimeError)

Gemfile.in:

# The following groups are not packaged as RPMs and are used only in
Bundler mode
group :ci do
   # needed by hudson
   gem 'ci_reporter', '~> 1.7.2', :require => 'ci/reporter/core'
end
