kudzu used to use uname -r to determine which modules.pcimap, etc
information to look at it.  In Red Hat Linux 9 and later, kudzu has a
flag (-k) to allow specifying a specific kernel version, which then
makes it so that the kernel version on your boot media doesn't have to
exactly match the kernel version being installed.
