RHEL AS-2.1 U3 extremely slow - nfs issue?

if that doesnt work, the advisory is:- "RHSA-2004:069"

the initrd image the the boot kernel comes with has barely any modules in
it.
also it is structured a little differently than normal.
i pretty much rebuilt the initrd image by hand...
