Can you use the nicdelay and linksleep parameters on boot?  I haven't had
success with them yet, and since the Ethernet link is bounced several times
during kickstart they introduce long delays multiple times which is annoying.
However, they are supposed to be able to help with the STP issue.

The network team here does not want to adjust STP and PortFast settings on an
individual basis.  They have legitimate reasons, but in the end it means I
need to find a way to make pump handle STP better -- ISC does it.
